The 1394 Trade Association is already talking up FireWire S3200, but Symwave is taking baby steps, demonstrating a 1.6Gbps system known as S1600 (shocking) that’s backwards-compatible with FireWire 800 and 400 this week at a conference in China. That’s great and all — transferring 1000 four megapixel images in five seconds sure sounds like a good time — but speeds like that probably aren’t going to cut it when FireWire 800 devices are already thin on the ground, everyone’s looking forward to S3200, and the 4.8Gbps USB 3.0 spec is already making appearances on schedule for a launch in 2010. Not to mention that Wireless USB 1.1’s target speed is 1.0Gbps — you know we’ll take a slight speed hit if we can ditch the cables.

HP recently launched Full- function 2133 Mini-notebook PC. Students will be benefitted by the latest launch as they can now use it in classrooms and at home. Compact, sleek and light notebook features wireless, security and multimedia capabilities. The enhanced performance and augmented mobile experience adds to the usability.

While clear coating over Durakeys protects the printed characters and letters, the anodized aluminum shell makes it more rugged. HP in collaboration with Microsoft has developed an online community Teacher Experience Exchange to discuss, learn and share with other people. Bearing an unimaginable price of $499, the laptop is a boon for education market.

LaCie’s no stranger to getting designers to fashion up external hard drive designs, what with Sam Hecht, Ora-Ito, Karim Rashid, GmbH and the LEGO guy (actually also Ora-Ito) lending their name to designs. This latest one by Neil Poulton looks like the 2001 monolith sans naked monkeys, but with an eerie blue ambient light on the front emanated by an LED on the bottom. You’d normally have to pay some kind of huge price premium for designs, but LaCie’s $149 for 500GB seems pretty reasonable.

Lenovo is lunching first Macbook Air Killer from the PC side. Thinkpad X300 has 1.13kg of weight and it is 18.6mm thin.

Spec:

64GB of SSD

DVD Multi-drive

As I just wrote, X300 has almost everything in it which Macbook Air does not. If this Thinkpad runs Mac OS X, I definitely get this rather than Macbook Air.
